Intro
Rotaract is a worldwide organisation with over 500
clubs in Great Britain and Ireland. Therefore we are organised into
Districts to help pass information to other clubs regarding activities
and constitutional changes that are going on. District 1240 covers
most of Essex and part of Hertfordshire.
District Exec
District is set up much the same as at Club level
with the only differences being the titles of the committee (Exec)
members. The posts on the District Executive are as follows:
- Chairman
- Vice-Chairman
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Sports
- Social
- Community/Fundraising
- Publicity/Membership
- Vocational/International
- Rotary/Rotaract Liaison Officer
National meetings are held 4 times a year over a weekend
and the District Chairman is required to attend. The information
that they receive and any proposals that are put forward at these
meetings will be passed onto the rest of the District at the District
Exec Meetings.
The District Exec has meetings 6 times a year. All
District Exec members report back on the work they are doing. The
meetings are run on a similar format to club committee meetings.
District Events
The two biggest district events are as follows:
District Ball
Every June (the end of the Rotaract year)
the annual District Ball is held, organised by the District Vice-Chairman.
This is a black tie dinner/dance with a live band and is normally
attended by a lot of Rotaractors, Rotaservers and Rotarians and
is a great way to celebrate the end of the Rotaract year. This is
the evening when the District Committee changes hands.
District Conference
This is a weekend conference organised by members of the District
Committee. The weekend usually comprises of seminars, discussions,
speakers from various organisations, discos and lots of drink! It
is a fun weekend that offers the chance for you to meet Rotaractors
from clubs all over the District.
Other district events are:
- Pathfinder - a late night orienteering competition
to raise sponsorship money for each clubs charities.
- Car Treasure Hunt
- Pop Quiz
- Talent Night
- Barn Dance
- Christmas Party
- Sport Events:
- Rounders
- Petanque
- Squash
- Badminton
- Basketball
- Tug of War
- Pitch 'n' Putt
- Football
- Ten Pin Bowling
- Darts
- Indoor hockey
District Trophies
All of the following trophies are presented to the
winning clubs at the District Ball:
Challenge Cup
Each club is encouraged to challenge as many clubs as possible during
the Rotaract year to any event as agreed by both clubs. The organising
club gets one point for arranging the challenge, each club gets
a point for participating in a challenge and the winning club gets
a point. The District Sports Officer keeps tracks of the Challenge
table.
Sports Cup
This cup is presented to the club who wins the most points by entering
District sports competitions (not challenges). Again each club gets
one point for participating and the winning club gets 2 points.
Membership Trophy
This is awarded at the end of the year to the club who has increased
their club membership level by the highest percentage.
RARA Award
This stands for Rotaract Award for Rotary Achievement and is given
to a Rotarian who has most contributed to the Rotaract movement.
Clubs are asked to nominate a Rotarian and give a small explanation
as to why they think he/she should win the trophy. A vote is taken
at the last District meeting. All nominees are given a certificate
and the winner is presented with a trophy.
Harry Davey Award
This is a trophy given to a club who has organised
the best community event(s) during the Rotaract year. Nominations
are given to the District Community Officer and the District Chairman
and the District Community Officer decide the winner. Entries can
take many forms, the most common being a folder/presentation or
a club scrap book. All clubs are encouraged to enter this annual
competition.
